One weekend every year in August I live on the proverbial set of “Top Gun”. I feel as though I should turn up ‘Danger Zone’ by Kenny Loggins while I listen to the planes practicing and participating in the Abbotsford International Airshow but never have I actually been there to take in the excitement.
This year I headed to the airshow for my first time with VIP passes from Tanglebank on a mission to photograph our arrangements featured in the City of Abbotsford’s VIP Chalet with an added bonus of taking my family visiting from Saskatchewan with me!
Let me tell you that I have been spoiled and now I can never go to the airshow as a civilian for the rest of my days. With no line up for parking, lunch by Culinary Touch Catering and seats under umbrellas with the mayor mingling around our tent, I felt as impenetrable as Maverick in a pair of aviators…. ok, not quite that cool but sometimes it’s nice to have a little VIP treatment.
Of course I had to go and see how the annual airshow junkies spend their weekend and as it turns out, they experience the airshow amongst a field of umbrellas and people beating the hit in their swimsuits, necks craned towards the sky to watch the various planes rise and fall overhead. Whether you have the privilege to watch the airshow as a VIP or if you are just amongst the regular admission, everyone looked to be having a great time.
This year was considerably cooler than the previous years, not to mention that the talent was, for me an airshow virgin, everything I imagined. Once I knocked my eco-friendly conscious off my shoulder and forgot my thoughts of how I would be vomiting in every one of the participants’ planes in the airshow it was beautiful and amazing to watch.
